Modernising the public sector on show

Wednesday, March 13, 2019 - 21:00 to Thursday, March 14, 2019 - 01:00

The Australian Public Service: what we do is literally in our name. We need to be relevant and fit for purpose. We must deliver high quality results for Australian citizens and businesses in the most efficient way possible.

Modernising the public sector is about making sure we continue to be a useful part of the everyday life of Australians. We need to ask questions like ‘can we do things more effectively?’ and ‘did we co-design that program or service with the people who use it?’

The independent review is taking a broader look at what the APS needs for long-term sustainability. But there are a lot of initiatives and Modernisation Fund projects already underway to improve both the way we work and our services to citizens.

The Modernising the Public Sector Exhibition is an opportunity to learn about many of these projects and see how they are already providing benefits. The Department of Finance-hosted exhibition is in March and will highlight around 20 projects, including Geoscience Australia’s exciting Digital Earth project, the DTA’s Digital Identity and DHS’ Welfare Payment Infrastructure Transformation.

Dr Martin Parkinson AC PSM (Secretary, Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet) will host the official opening of the expo. Minister for Finance and the Public Service, Senator the hon. Matthias Cormann will open the exhibition. We will also hear from Assistant Minister for the Treasury and Finance, Senator the hon. Zed Seselja and Chair of the Secretaries’ APS Reform Committee, Rosemary Huxtable PSM (Secretary, Department of Finance) and will speak about the work already underway.

If you’d like to attend the official opening get in quick, there are limited places available.

You can stay up-to-date about the exhibition and join the general conversation about public sector reform in the Modernising the Public Sector community on GovTEAMS.
